Meals on Wheels volunteers deliver meals to each senior’s home, helping to ensure their safety and well-being. The visit also provided an opportunity for Congresswoman Kuster to hear about ways she can help support programs for seniors and hunger relief efforts at the federal level. “It is so inspiring to see the incredible work of the staff and volunteers at St. Joseph Community Services, as well as the positive impact it has for so many seniors in Nashua and the surrounding towns,” said Congresswoman Kuster. “Food insecurity can have devastating effects on our communities, and the Meals on Wheels program at St. Joseph’s is crucial in ensuring our seniors stay healthy and happy. In Washington, I have worked to maintain federal funding for Meals on Wheels and will continue to advocate for hunger relief programs to protect the most vulnerable Granite Staters.” Kuster has been a strong supporter of federal efforts to support nutrition assistance and seniors programs, including the Meals on Wheels program and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. In October, she helped pass the Older Americans Act, which provides funding for Meals on Wheels, senior centers, caregiver support, and other services for the elderly. She also introduced the Wild Game Donation Act with Congressman Don Young (AK-AL), a bipartisan bill that would provide a tax credit to hunters who donate game to food charities. In 2013, Kuster successfully fought against dangerously high cuts to SNAP in the Farm Bill. St. Joseph Community Services is a regional nonprofit that seeks to build independence for seniors through a range of programs, including nutrition assistance and support services.
