During the discussion, Kuster heard directly from business, transportation, and community leaders about current challenges and deficits in our states transportation network, as well as the importance of passenger rail to businesses and residents in the Claremont area. She also highlighted her work to support transportation infrastructure at the federal level, and discussed other ways that Congress can bolster passenger rail and foster job creation around the Granite State. A robust transportation infrastructure is critical for New Hampshire to thrive in the global 21st century economy, and I will continue to work with my colleagues in Congress to ensure our local businesses have the infrastructure support they need to expand and create more jobs in the state, said Congresswoman Kuster. Todays roundtable gave me a chance to hear from business and community leaders about the importance of passenger rail to economic development in Claremont and the surrounding communities. I look forward to working together with todays participants to strengthen our roads, bridges, and railways so we can meet the needs of residents, businesses, and tourists alike, while protecting vital construction jobs for our workers. Congresswoman Kuster has been a strong advocate for federal funding for projects to repair and improve New Hampshires transportation infrastructure. Last year, Kuster introduced the DRIVE Now Act, legislation to help the state fix our roads and bridges and support vital construction jobs. She also supports expanded transportation options around New Hampshire which would help boost the local economy and create jobs. Kuster was joined for the roundtable discussion on the importance of infrastructure to economic development in the region by transportation and business leaders, including Claremont Mayor Jim Neilsen, City Councilor and Chair of the Claremont Train Stop Ad Hoc Committee Charlene Lovett, State Representative Raymond Gagnon, Claremont City Manager Guy Santagate, Executive Director of the Upper Valley Lake Sunapee Regional Planning Commission Nathan Miller, and Transportation Director of Community Alliance Human Services Pam Joslin. The Claremont Amtrak station is two and a half miles west of downtown Claremont, and is the only passenger rail station in the western part of the state.
