http://labrador.house.gov/index.cfm?sectionid=49&itemid=1125 House Passes Labrador Bill to Combat Gang Violence 2017-09-14 2017 2017-09 Republican House ID Raúl Labrador L000573 labrador.house.gov     legacy FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:                FOR MORE INFORMATION: Thursay | September 14, 2017        Todd Winer – 202.495.8546         Dan Popkey – 208.800.1565           HOUSE PASSES LABRADOR BILL TO COMBAT GANG VIOLENCE   WASHINGTON, D.C. –Today, the U.S. House passed legislation introduced by Rep. Raúl Labrador (R-ID), Chairman of the House Immigration and Border Security Subcommittee, to combat gang violence by criminal aliens. H.R. 3697, the Criminal Alien Gang Member Removal Act, bars alien gang members from coming to the U.S. and detains and removes them if they are criminal gang members or participate in gang activity.  “The House is taking strong action today to deal with the ever-growing threat of transnational criminal gangs,” said Rep. Labrador, who managed the bill on the House floor. “For too long, these gangs have exploited our broken immigration system to illegally enter our country with the express purpose of victimizing innocent Americans. The bill we passed today will make it easier to deport alien gang members and will make our communities safer. “This is the third time this year the House has passed portions of the Davis-Oliver Act, which I introduced in May, to strengthen immigration enforcement.  I’m proud to have introduced today’s bill with Chairman Goodlatte, Rep. Comstock, and Rep. King; and I thank my colleagues for passing it.” According to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), membership in violent transnational gangs such as MS-13 is comprised largely of foreign-born nationals. H.R. 3697 enhances public safety by ensuring that alien gang members are kept off our streets. Additionally, it ensures that criminal alien gang members are not eligible for immigration benefits, such as asylum, special immigrant juvenile status, and temporary protected status. H.R. 3697 was taken from the Davis-Oliver Act, which Rep. Labrador introduced to strengthen immigration enforcement.  On June 29, the House passed two other bills that were originally part of Davis-Oliver: Kate’s Lawand the No Sanctuary for Criminals Act. Rep. Labrador introduced H.R. 3697 with Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA), Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee; Rep. Barbara Comstock (R-VA.); and Rep. Peter King (R-NY). To watch Rep.
