Lance’s Rahway River provision instructs the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to finish the study. The U.S. Senate is expected to pass the measure immediately. “Residents and businesses in Cranford, Kenilworth, Maplewood, Millburn, Rahway, Springfield and Union have waited long enough. My provision tells the Army Corps to finish the study and finalize the flood mitigation plan. Congress will soon deliver this legislation to the President’s desk and I urge his signature so these communities can get the help they need,” Lance said after passage. Lance has led the federal effort to secure authorization for completion of the study. Lance and his staff have met with the Mayors Council on Rahway River Watershed Flood Control and the Army Corps regularly to coordinate efforts. Lance recently joined Senator Bob Menendez (NJ) and Colonel David A. Caldwell, Commander of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (New York District), for a site visit of the proposed solution, known as Alternative 4A. That plan includes a modification to the Orange Reservoir and downstream channel improvements through Cranford as well as the acquisition of numerous properties in the City of Rahway.
