Latta was the author of the companion House legislation to honor the OSS, a precursor to the Central Intelligence Agency. The OSS conducted critical operations during World War II including establishing intelligence networks and training resistance organizations throughout Europe and Asia.“It’s now official that the veterans of the OSS will be formally honored with a Congressional Gold Medal for their actions that contributed to an Allied Forces victory in World War II,” said Latta. “The courage and skill that these brave men and women displayed is more than deserving, and their legacy should be officially recognized with the highest civilian honor, a Congressional Gold Medal. Additionally, their efforts helped shape our national security structure that continues to keep our country safe. It’s time that Congress collectively recognize the 13,000 members of the OSS for their service to this country, and the signing of this legislation into law makes that a reality.” The legislation passed the U.S. House of Representatives on November 30.
