Yesterday, Loebsack personally met with Robert Reynolds, Director, Benefits Assistance Service, Veterans Benefit Administration and John Medve, Executive Director, VA/DOD Collaboration Service. Today, he questioned VA and Department of Defense officials at a joint House Armed Services Committee (HASC) and House Veterans Affairs Committee hearing about improving the transition from military service to civilian life. In response to the Roundtables, Loebsack also sent a letter to Eric Shinseki, the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, to directly share the concerns of Iowans, including the backlog of Veterans disability claims, its appeal process, the effects of Agent Orange, and transportation services. “Last week, I held seven roundtable discussions with veterans, their families, county veterans service officers, and Veterans Service Organizations throughout eastern and southeastern Iowa. Hearing Iowa veterans tell the story of their service and sacrifice for our nation is a truly humbling experience,” Loebsack wrote to Secretary Shinseki. “I strongly urge you take these ideas and concerns into account and work to address the issues raised by my constituents.
