They discussed the importance of maintaining a strong industrial base at the Rock Island Arsenal. At the breakfast meeting, senior Army leaders joined a bipartisan group of Representatives for a discussion led by Loebsack and hosted by the House Military Depot, Arsenal, Ammunition Plant and Industrial Facilities Caucus. Loebsack, along with Congressman Walter Jones (NC-03), serve as the bipartisan Co-Chairmen of the Caucus.“I was pleased to be able to host these key Army leaders this morning to continue our discussion about how to best position the Rock Island Arsenal and its critical role in equipping our troops and spurring economic development in the Quad Cities region. Loebsack, Cheri Bustos (IL-17) and Tammy Duckworth (IL-08). The specific portions included in the National Defense Authorization Act would:- Give the Arsenal more flexibility in the rates it charges customers. Army arsenals need the tools to keep themselves viable and competitive. The amendment creates a 2-year pilot program in which arsenals will be able to adjust their labor rates throughout the year based upon their workloads and other factors instead of charging a fixed rate, which is often non-competitive. - Require the Department of Defense to identify critical defense items currently being manufactured in foreign countries and develop a plan for bringing that work back to U.S. arsenals and depots to help meet critical skill requirements. | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
