Republicans continued through the night to quickly jam through legislation that was drafted in secret and introduced less than two days before the committee hearing. “Republicans have had more than seven years to come up with a plan of their own to ‘repeal and replace’ Obamacare. Instead, in less than two days of committee meetings, Republicans pushed through legislation that rips healthcare coverage from up to 10 million Americans. On top of that, Republicans pushed this bill through despite not having a cost estimate from the Congressional Budget Office. “What we do know about Trumpcare is almost as scary for Iowans as what we don’t. The bill that Republicans pushed through the committee gives tax breaks to the wealthiest at the expense of low-income and working families. This bill will lead to a rationing of care for the nations most disadvantaged, including seniors, children, people with disabilities and the working poor. This bill drives up costs for older Americans by implementing an ‘age-tax’. This bill provides a tax cuts to millionaires and billionaires, where the top 400 highest income families would get an annual $7 million tax break.
