This legislation also opens the door to eliminating the guarantee that pre-existing conditions will be covered for 1.3 million Iowans. “Today’s vote is the culmination of seven years of Republicans using healthcare as a political football rather than have an honest debate on making healthcare more affordable and accessible for all Iowans. When the ACA was passed, we closed the door on insurance companies being able to charge someone who has been sick whatever they want. This bill opens that door, leaving it possible that 1.3 million Iowans with pre-existing conditions like asthma, diabetes and cancer will be subject to higher payments or even the loss of coverage altogether. “On top of all of that, this bill gives massive tax breaks to millionaires, billionaires and corporations, imposes an “age tax”, puts healthcare for seven million Veterans at risk and would mean an increase in out-of-pocket costs for children with disabilities.
