Loebsack authored an amendment to expand the Bus and Bus Facilities Competitive Grant Program as part of the Highway bill (The FAST Act), which became law in 2015. Specifically, funding through this competitive program is used to replace buses that operate in rural areas and have reached the end of their useful life. Iowa received more than $4 million from this program in 2016.For folks living in rural areas, having access to reliable transportation to connect with more urban communities is essential for growth across our state, said Loebsack. Bus fleets across the state are falling into disrepair and it is imperative that we continue to work to bring our transportation infrastructure into the 21st Century. I am pleased to have authored this amendment to ensure Iowans get their fair share of funding. As part of the FAST Act, Loebsacks amendment created a nationwide $1.5 billion grant program to update aging buses and bus facilities. The Bus and Bus Facilities Competitive Grant Program gives all 50 states the ability to compete for limited bus funding based on the merits of the project, not just geographic location. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
