Billy Long secured a commitment from the U.S. Forest Service to hold an open house early next year for constituents to address their concerns and comment on the Forest Service’s controlled burn of 17,000 acres in Mark Twain National Forest in Southwest Missouri. “Many residents in Southwest Missouri were unaware of the Forest Service’s plan for a controlled burn and have expressed concerns with the agency’s proposal. I am glad area residents will have the opportunity to express their concerns to Forest Service officials in January. It is important the Forest Service hear the concerns of area residents and work to address them before moving forward with the controlled burn,” Long said. The Forest Service is in the process of preparing for a controlled burn in the Butler Hollow portion of the Mark Twain National Forest in Barry County that involves over 17,000 acres. Long secured the commitment from the Forest Service to hold the open house after the agency declined to extend the public comment period for the burn, which ends on December 22nd. Southwest Missourians have expressed concerns about the project. The Forest Service’s open house in January will allow concerned citizens to comment on the project, which will have the same merit as the comments submitted during the public comment period.
