Long. “This piece of legislation, which includes my provision allowing for further communication between drug manufacturers and heath care professionals, will cut through the bureaucratic red tape that stifles innovation and will pave a way for developing drugs for rare diseases. My hope is that the Senate will pass this bill and send it to the president’s desk by the end of the 114th Congress to be signed into law.” The final “21st Century Cures” bill as a whole is fully offset and will provide: $1 billion in grants for states to fight opioid abuse, $500 million for the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and $4.8 billion to the National Institutes of Health.
