The legislation included provisions to extend the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, for which Maloney is the lead sponsor: After 9/11, I became concerned about the health effects of exposure to toxins at Ground Zero. Eleven years ago I introduced the first 9/11 health bill. Five years ago we got it passed. This week we made it permanent. Never again will survivors and responders be forced to walk the halls of Congress, begging for their health care. Congress has taken bipartisan action to do right by the heroes of 9/11. After 15 years, the heroes and survivors of 9/11 will know that their health care is permanent and their compensation is full. Congress has spoken.
