Congressman Patrick Meehan (PA-07) today supported House passage of bipartisan tax relief legislation that will prevent pending tax increases on millions of American taxpayers. The legislation passed today with the support of Republicans and Democrats by a vote of 318-109. Meehan spoke on the House floor in support of the legislation this afternoon. This legislation is a bipartisan win for middle-class Pennsylvania families, said Congressman Meehan. It makes permanent the tax credit for research and development, which will expand life-saving research and create good-paying jobs in the life sciences in our region. It delays the harmful Obamacare tax on medical devices like pacemakers and heart valves that drives up costs for patients and stifles innovation. And it includes a number of provisions that will help small businesses expand and invest in new equipment and technology. These provisions are key to job creation and economic growth in our area. It also makes permanent the charitable deduction for property donated for conservation. These conservation easements preserve open space and will help our communities protect Pennsylvanias scenic farmlands and woodlands. The bill makes permanent the deduction for elementary and high school teachers who pay out of their own pockets for supplies their students need in their classrooms. And it makes permanent enhancements to the earned income tax credit, which benefits more than 900,000 low- and middle-income families in Pennsylvania. The bill includes important protections and reforms that will aid taxpayers in their dealings with the IRS. It contains my legislation which gives non-profits the right to appeal a denial of tax-exempt status. Making these tax provisions permanent gives certainty to taxpayers as they try to plan for the future. Its another bipartisan victory that will expand jobs and opportunity for hardworking taxpayers, Meehan said. | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
