In a letter prepared for today's city hearing on the plan, Meng reiterated that the Cooper Avenue site, presently a vacant factory, is an inappropriate location for such a facility. She also criticized the lack of time that area residents had to review the proposal. Under the proposal, the group Samaritan Village is seeking to convert the plant at 78-16 Cooper Avenue into a shelter to house 125 families beginning this summer. Meng first announced her opposition to the plan this past summer when the proposal was unveiled.
