The bill would streamline the licensing process the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) uses on closed-loop pumped storage projects. It would also require FERC to hold a workshop focused on potential opportunities for development of closed-loop pumped storage projects at abandoned mine sites. Congressman Griffith issued the following statement: “Closed-loop pumped storage hydropower is a boon for energy security and job creation. My bill would cut unnecessary red tape that currently accompanies approval of these projects, and I am glad the Energy and Commerce Committee advanced it today.
