Although I remain concerned about some of the bill's provisions and its omissions, many farmers in the Ninth District depend on programs that this farm bill renews. I think the final version of the farm bill is a missed opportunity. It leaves out important reforms, including work requirements for able-bodied adults in the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program and forestry provisions on western lands, that have strong support in the House and among the public. Further, the conference report includes an extraneous change to the definition of interstate stalking. The farm bill appears to make crossing interstate lines to harass pets, including rodents, fish, and turtles, a felony.
