Noem Shows Off Holiday Home Decor To Combat Teen Suicide | 2016-12-11 | 2016 | 2016-12 | Republican | House | SD | Kristi Noem | N000184 | noem.house.gov | legacy | KELOLAND Rep. Kristi Noem (R-SD) is hoping showing off her holiday home decor will combat suicide on the Pine Ridge Reservation. It’s the first time Watertown native Traci Althoff has ever stepped a foot in a well-known congresswoman's house. “It’s decorated very pretty. I love it! I could live here!" Althoff said. Noem is hosting her "Christmas in the Country Tour of Homes" event. The Lone U.S. Representative opened up her ranch-style house to anyone who paid for a $10 ticket. "I'm excited, we should have a lot of people coming through today and it's all for a very good cause," Noem said. A cause that's near and dear to her heart. All the proceeds will go to the Sweetgrass Initiative on Pine Ridge, a program that aims to combat teen suicide on the reservation. "Well you know I'm a mom and when you see teenagers here in South Dakota suffering with the kind of situations that a lot of these teens at Pine Ridge have been going through, you want to help, you want to do all that you can," Noem said. She's hoping the extra funds will help the program keep a hot line in place, keep high school counselors on staff, and prevent tragic situations from happening. Althoff is glad to be supporting the cause. "Anytime you can do something positive for kids and for anybody it makes you feel good... so this will bring some highlight to that and make people aware that there are kids out there really need desperate help that they just aren't getting," Althoff said. Noem's house wasn't the only one on the tour. People also had the chance to view her sister and her mother's home farther down the road. | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
