To mark the 72nd anniversary of the attack, Minnesota’s 8th District Congressman Rick Nolan will make a special presentation honoring Birk, now 93 years old, at Hoyt Lakes VFW Post 8144, with ceremonies set to begin at 3:00 PM on Saturday, December 7. Following Pearl Harbor, Birk was reassigned to the USS Denver where he remained in the Pacific Theatre until his discharge in February 1946. He and his wife of 67 years, Marion, still live in their family home in Hoyt Lakes. Prior to the stop in Hoyt Lakes, Nolan will attend a reception and recognition event for Veterans at the Gilbert VFW from 12:30 to 1:30 PM.
