Pete Olson (R-TX) today voted to lift the antiquated, 40 year old ban on the export of US crude oil as part of the year-end spending bill that also includes many provisions that ensure no new funding for Obamacare and prohibits funds for Obamacare Risk Corridors. It also delays the so called Cadillac tax, includes theVisa Waiver Program reforms bill the House passed and provides a one-year extension of the Internet Tax Freedom Act. It also maintains all critical existing pro-life policy and funding provisions and includes Second Amendment rights protections. The FY2016 Omnibus Appropriations Bill passed by a vote of 316-113. Lifting the 40 year ban on oil exports is a game changer for American national security and will directly help our largest employer in Houston, the energy industry that has been losing jobs Rep. Pete Olson said. While not perfect, this bill blocks any new funding for Obamacare and continues to prevent a taxpayer bailout of Obamacares risk corridor program. It strengthens the Visa Waiver Program to protect the homeland and prevents the transfer of Guantanamo detainees to American soil. As a strong advocate for American energy independence, Im thrilled we finally lifted the oil ban. This action means up to a million new American jobs will be created and we can help our allies across the globe reduce their energy reliance on hostile regimes like Russia and Iran. Highlights include: Repeals the antiquated oil export ban. Increases resources for our military. Strengthens the Visa Waiver Program to protect the homeland. Prohibits new funding forObamacare. Prevents the transfer of Guantanamo detainees to American soil. Blocks EPA overreach. Reins in the IRS. Maintains strong protections for life. Honors our commitment to our veterans.
