Its’ people have suffered inexplicable horror and death at the hands of their government and its partners. “I echo U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power’s recent remarks at the UN Security Council Emergency Briefing on Syria when she said, ‘The regime of Bashar Al-Assad, Russia, Iran, and their affiliated militia are the ones responsible for what the UN called ‘a complete meltdown of humanity.’ The crisis in Syria amplifies the importance of keeping the United States open to refugees fleeing death and destruction.
