Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ), a member of the House Budget and Ways and Means Committees, released the following statement today after the Department of Labor announced that the economy added 211,000 jobs and the unemployment rate held at 5 percent, both in line with predictions for the month. The job growth will likely allow the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates later this month. Steadily, our jobs are increasing and we should be able to keep this momentum going. Were adding 218,000 jobs on average in the last three months, 13.7 million jobs over 69 months straight. Were bringing in a post-recession era of sustainable growth. This is another milepost on the road to recovery. This report also adds 18,000 jobs to the October tally and payroll for September was revised upward by 8,000. Its time for the detractors and the naysayers who condemn the President to put it in perspective. We are winning this fight in the middle rounds. But we cannot forget that there are still folks who are struggling to get back on their feet. I continue to focus on implementing policies that raise wages for the working and middle class and get the long-term unemployed back to work. We just passed a robust transportation bill that will add construction jobs and spur development.
