Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09), a member of the House Budget and Ways and Means Committees, released the following statement today after the Department of Labor announced that the economy added 321,000 jobs and the unemployment rate held at 5.8 percent, the lowest unemployment rate since July 2008. With businesses adding 314,000 jobs, this marks the 58th consecutive month of private sector job growth. “Today's jobs report is further evidence that the economic recovery is accelerating and the policies the President and Congressional Democrats took to dig the country out of the Great Recession are bearing fruit. This is the 50th straight month of payroll growth, the longest stretch in our country's history, and we have now added more jobs in 2014 than any year since 1999. Manufacturing saw the strongest job growth since the 90’s adding 28,000 jobs, bringing the total to 764,000 jobs over the past 57 months. “I'm also encouraged by signs of wage growth that will help raise the standards of living for working Americans. We still have a long way to go, especially in New Jersey, where we have only recovered 47 percent of the jobs we lost during the recession and continue to have the 3rd highest long-term unemployment in the country.
