Pascrell Announces $400,000 in Federal HIV Funds for St. Josephs Healthcare System | 2014-12-10 | 2014 | 2014-12 | Democrat | House | NJ | Bill Pascrell | P000096 | pascrell.house.gov | legacy | WASHINGTON, DC – Continuing in his commitment to assist people living with the HIV/AIDS virus, U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-09) today announced that $402,147 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' (HHS) Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program was awarded to St. Joseph’s Healthcare System. The funding is part of the Part C Early Intervention Services (EIS) component of the federal Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program, which funds comprehensive primary health care in outpatient settings for people living with HIV disease. "These federal funds will help strengthen St. Joseph's already high quality care for those living with HIV and AIDS," said Rep. Pascrell, a former Paterson mayor who served as chairman of the Paterson-Passaic-Bergen HIV Planning Council during the early years of the Ryan White Program. "This federal funding will help ensure that thousands of New Jerseyans can receive the services they need to remain healthy. I'll continue to fight to ensure Passaic County and the state at-large continues to receive its fair share of funding from this vital program." "We are grateful for Congressman Pascrell's fight for these federal Ryan White funds and applaud his commitment to healthcare for all New Jerseyans," said Kevin Slavin, President and Chief Executive Officer of St. Joseph's Healthcare System. "These federal funds will allow St. Joe's to continue our work in providing those living with HIV and AIDS with the absolute best care possible." Ryan White was diagnosed with AIDS at age 13. He and his mother, Jeanne White Ginder, fought for his right to attend school, gaining international attention as a voice of reason about HIV/AIDS. Ryan White died at the age of 18 on April 8, 1990, just months before Congress passed the Ryan White CARE (Comprehensive AIDS Resources Emergency) Act. The legislation has been reauthorized four times, most recently in 2009, and is now called the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program. ### | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
