| http://paulsen.house.gov/index.cfm?sectionid=22&itemid=1913 | Paulsen Statement on Tax Reform Framework | 2017-09-27 | 2017 | 2017-09 | Republican | House | MN | Erik Paulsen | P000594 | paulsen.house.gov | legacy | Washington, D.C. – Congressman Erik Paulsen (MN-03) released the following statement regarding the announcement of a new tax reform framework: “This is an exciting week for Minnesota’s middle-class families and small businesses,” said Congressman Paulsen. “After more than three decades since the last major tax reform, the framework released today outlines how fixing our broken tax code will lead to more jobs and bigger paychecks. Tax reform is about one thing: Restoring the hope of prosperity for American workers, their families, and, most importantly, the next generation.” The framework released today represents a consensus from the key tax-writing committees in Congress as well as the administration on what should be included in tax reform. As a member of the Ways and Means Committee, Congressman Paulsen has been very involved in this process, participating in numerous hearings, visiting local businesses and companies, meeting with constituents, and more. This framework will deliver a 21st century tax code that is built for growth, supports middle-class families, defends our workers, protects our jobs, and puts America first. It will deliver fiscally responsible tax reform by broadening the tax base, closing loopholes, and growing the economy. The framework: - Doubles the Standard Deduction, so low- and middle-income Americans will see twice the amount of their paycheck protected from taxes, $12,000 for single filers and $24,000 for married couples; - Consolidates the current seven tax brackets to threeof 12 percent, 25 percent, and 35 percent. An additional top rate may apply to the highest-income taxpayers to ensure that the reformed tax code is at least as progressive as the existing tax code; - Unleashes job creation for American businesses of all sizeswith 20 percent rates for corporations and no more than 25 percent for small and family-owned businesses; - Throws out special-interest loopholes that are primarily used by those with connections in Washington and the wealthy; - Brings profits back home by exempting foreign profits earned by U.S. businesses from taxes when those funds are brought back to the U.S. The full framework can be found here, and additional information can be found here. Congressman Paulsen, a champion of small business and advocate of free enterprise, entrepreneurship, and innovation, serves on the House Ways and Means Committee, the bicameral Joint Economic Committee, and is co-chair of the Congressional Medical Technology Caucus.
