| http://paulsen.house.gov/index.cfm?sectionid=22&itemid=1921 | Paulsen Statement on Release of Once-in-a-Generation Tax Reform Bill | 2017-11-02 | 2017 | 2017-11 | Republican | House | MN | Erik Paulsen | P000594 | paulsen.house.gov | legacy | Washington, D.C. – After months of meetings and hearings on fixing the broken tax code, Congressman Erik Paulsen (MN-03) joined his colleagues in announcing a new tax reform bill, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, that will grow the American economy with bigger paychecks and more jobs. “Too many Minnesotans are living paycheck to paycheck and haven’t seen a raise in a long time,” said Congressman Paulsen. “Tax reform will make our economy boom again, allowing middle-income and working families to keep more of their dollars earned, reducing everyday costs of living, and giving Americans the ability to save more for their retirement and their children’s future.” As a member of the tax-writing Ways and Means Committee, Congressman Paulsen helped draft the first major tax reform legislation since 1986. This plan delivers a 21st-century tax code that is built for growth, supports middle-income families, defends our workers, protects our jobs, and puts the U.S. first. A simpler, flatter, and fairer tax code will help small businesses hire more people and invest more in their business. The tax reform bill: Doubles the Standard Deduction, so low- and middle-income Americans will see twice the amount of their paycheck protected from taxes, $12,000 for single filers and $24,000 for married couples; Consolidates the current seven tax brackets; Lower rates for American businesses of all sizes; Throws out special-interest loopholes that are primarily used by those with connections in Washington; Brings profits back home by exempting foreign profits earned by U.S. businesses from taxes when those funds are brought back to the U.S. Text of the bill can be read here. Congressman Paulsen, a champion of small business and advocate of free enterprise, entrepreneurship, and innovation, serves on the House Ways and Means Committee, the bicameral Joint Economic Committee, and is co-chair of the Congressional Medical Technology Caucus.
