Congressman Erik Paulsen (MN-03) released the following statement regarding the inclusion of the Craft Beverage Modernization and Tax Reform Act in the tax reform package passed by Congress: Six thousand breweries across the country98 percent of which are small or independentwill no longer be burdened by out-of-date regulations and high excise taxes, said Congressman Paulsen.Now, they can focus on growing their business and the local economy by expanding, creating more jobs, and fostering a sense of community. The bipartisan Craft Beverage Modernization and Tax Reform Act, which Congressman Paulsen introduced earlier this year along with Congressman Ron Kind (WI-03), modernizes the tax code and streamlines regulations for producers of craft beverages, cider, wine, and distilled spirits. It eliminates red tape by simplifying beer formulation approvals, simplifying beer recordkeeping and inventory rules, and allowing for the transfer of beer in bond to breweries. Additionally, it reduces administrative backlogs by ensuring proper funding for the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB). Small brewers are increasingly playing an important role in cities and towns across Minnesota and the country thanks to a growing appreciation of craft beverages; 83 percent of Americans live within 10 miles of a local brewery.
