Payne, Jr. (NJ-10) joined U.S. Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ), Congressman Albio Sires (NJ-13), Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis, Bayonne Fire Chief Gregory Rogers, and the brave men and women from the Bayonne Fire Department for a ribbon cutting of a brand new 15,000 square foot fire station. “This is a great day for the City of Bayonne,” said Payne, Jr., Ranking Member of the Committee on Homeland Security, Subcommittee on Emergency Preparedness, Response, and Communications. “This new facility will allow our firefighters and first responders to have the state-of-the-art equipment they need to provide greater safety to the City of Bayonne. Every day, these men and women put their lives on the line for us, and so we as leaders owe it to them to do what we can to keep them safe. We have a duty to protect our protectors, and providing our first responders with the necessary resources to do their jobs efficiently and successfully is the least we can do.” Payne went on to recognize and congratulate Bayonne’s first female firefighter in its 108 year history, Ms. Cailin Brodel. “Ms. Brodel, you are knocking down barriers and stereotypes, and your commitment to this city is a shining example for both our young women and our young men.” The fire station was made possible by a $3.5 million grant from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act’s (ARRA) Fire Station Construction Grant (SCG) program.
