Payne, Jr. (NJ-10) signed a Democratic discharge petition, introduced by Congressman Mike Thompson (D-CA), to force a vote on Republican Congressman Peter Kings Denying Firearms and Explosives to Dangerous Terrorists Act. The bill would close the dangerous loophole that allows suspected terrorists on the FBIs Terrorist Watchlist to legally buy deadly weapons. One of the most important steps Congress can take to keep Americans safe is to keep guns out of the hands of suspected terrorists, said Congressman Payne, Jr. Republican leadership should abandon their willingness to allow suspected terrorists to buy weapons and join with us to close this dangerous loophole. According to a report by the Government Accountability Office, since 2004, more than 2,000 suspects on the FBIs Terrorist Watchlist have successfully purchased weapons in the United States.
