During the Homeland Security Committee markup of H.R. 4007 earlier this year, Congressman Perry offered an amendment that was accepted into the final bill. The amendment would allow the audit and inspection of chemical facilities to be carried out by non-Department or nongovernment entities, as approved by the Secretary. The addition of this amendment would allow DHS to complete its inspection of chemical facilities in a timely fashion so we can ensure that the products stored in these facilities are not used for terrorist purposes. With the growing strength of terror groups like ISIS it is critically important that we guard our chemical facilities from a terrorist attack, said Rep. Scott Perry. The ability to audit and inspect chemical facilities by government or approved nongovernment entities is vital to ensure that all facilities are as secure as possible. H.R. 4007 is the second recent legislative measure sponsored by Rep. Perry that is expected to be signed into law. His legislation to preserve the Lincoln Train Station, where President Abraham Lincoln arrived prior to delivering the Gettysburg Address, was adopted by the U.S. Senate last week. Rep. Perry has also sponsored several measures that passed the U.S. House during his first term, including a bi-partisan amendment to reform State Department bureaucracy to better protect the lives of American diplomats serving overseas, and amendments condemning Russian violations of Ukrainian sovereignty and limiting government surveillance of citizens and reducing wasteful federal spending.
