Pingree and 28 other Members of Congress signed an Amicus Brief with the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals to support the Obama Administration's rules that guarantee net neutrality. "Without net neutrality the big telecom companies can slow down or speed up certain sites based on who is paying them for faster access," Pingree said. "We need to preserve these rules to stop them from acting as gatekeepers of your content." The FCC declared Internet service providers (ISPs) to be public utilities like telephone companies, and issue regulations that prevent themfrom discriminating against or favoring certain sites.
