The legislation overturns many elements of the last reauthorization, known as No Child Left Behind (NCLB), which was passed in 2001. For years, I have heard from teachers, parents, and students about their frustrations with No Child Left Behind. Im pleased that we could finally reauthorize this key piece of legislation and make needed changes to federal policies that havent been working for our schools, said Pingree. The Every Student Succeeds Act gives states and school districts more flexibility while maintaining the necessary guardrails to ensure that all children have equal access to a high-quality education. It also takes steps to reduce redundant and unnecessary testing, and emphasizes the importance of a well-rounded education that will prepare our kids to be creative and engaged thinkers.
