In response to the growing threat, we must ensure that our screening procedures for anyone coming to this country, including refugees, are as strong and secure as possible. But effectively ending the U.S. refugee resettlement program for both Syria and Iraq as the so-called American SAFE Act of 2015 would do distracts from the real threats facing this country and does little to enhance Americas security. We are capable of protecting the American people from terrorist attacks and providing refuge for some of the worlds most vulnerable populations at the same time.
