Jim Renacci released the following statement on the Obama Administration’s finalization of the Stream Protection Rule: “Today, the Administration finalized yet another midnight rule in their relentless War on Coal. The Stream Protection Rule (SPR) will essentially mean the end of coal production in Ohio and the Appalachian Region, the end of thousands of good-paying jobs in countless communities, and higher electricity bills for all Ohioans. “Ohio’s coal industry directly and indirectly employs roughly 33,000 Ohioans. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, coal fueled 59% of Ohio’s net electricity generation in 2015 and powered eight of our ten largest power plants. Many of Ohio's most vulnerable people rely on access to affordable energy from coal. “As a member of the Congressional Coal Caucus, I have consistently been opposed to the SPR and the Obama Administration’s blatant disregard for the countless families it will impact. I look forward to working with my colleagues and President-elect Trump in his first 100 days in office to repeal this and several other last minute regulations. The SPR will qualify for repeal under the Congressional Review Act – an oversight tool Congress may use to overturn a rule issued by a federal agency.
