In America, we have the ability to turn dreams into realities through hard work and innovation. We owe these privileges to the men and women who served, and are currently serving, to protect the freedoms that are the bedrock of our country. As a member of Congress, it is my duty to ensure that those who choose to dedicate their lives defending our freedoms receive the support they deserve. For these reasons, I was proud to support the passage of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) earlier this year. TheNDAA fully funds the resources needed for our troops, but also cuts some unnecessary spending. One of the most important actions Congress can take is to pass a reform-centered NDAA to ensure our service members have the tools necessary to confront todays challenges and keep Americans safe. The NDAA also means jobs right here in the 16thDistrict of Ohio. For instance, one small employee-owned business will continue to manufacture radio towers vital for our ally Israels Iron Dome missile defense system. In addition to the NDAA, the Omnibus which was recently signed into law also includes provisions to strengthen our national defense, and restore funding forour men and women in uniform. One provision included will provide the necessary funding forthe construction and repair of facilities at both active and reserve military installations. Another provision will raise the pay for military personnel, and capital for the Department of Homeland Security. Finally, the House-passed bill to strengthen our Visa Waiver Program and tighten the security requirements under the program is also included in the Omnibus. Specifically, this legislation would deny Visa Waiver Program status to individuals who have recently travelled to terrorist hotspots. It is important to pause and show our gratitude for those who keep us safe and provide us the freedoms to pursue new opportunities in 2016.
