The Republican Steering Committee in the U.S. House of Representatives today appointed Congressman Tom Rice (SC-07) to the House Committee on Ways and Means. I am honored to receive the appointment to the prestigious Committee on Ways and Means, said Rice. Serving on the Committee will allow me a larger role in advancing bold solutions to some of the most pressing issues our country is facing. My focus in Congress has always been on jobs and American Competitiveness. Ways and Means plays a key role in increasing opportunity, creating jobs, and growing our economy. With my experience as a tax attorney, CPA, and businessman for over 25 years, I believe I will be an effective advocate for the Seventh District, South Carolina, and the country on the issues Ways and Means oversees. I understand the challenges Americans are facing in relation to our tax code and am eager to work with Chairman Brady and my other colleagues to enact serious tax reform and restore Americas competitiveness with the rest of the world. The House Committee on Ways and Means is the oldest committee of the United States Congress and is the chief tax-writing committee in the House of Representatives. The Committee exercises jurisdiction over revenue and related issues such as tariffs, reciprocal trade agreements and the bonded debt of the United States. Revenue-related aspects of the Social Security system, Medicare and social services programs also fall within the Ways and Means purview. Rice previously served on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, the Committee on the Budget, and the Small Business Committee. There has not been a South Carolinian on the Committee on Ways and Means since Representative Carroll Campbell, Jr. in 1986 (with the exception of Representative Tim Scott, who never served, as he was elected to the Senate). 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
