http://rodneydavis.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=398845 Davis Visits Danville VA Ahead of Veterans Day 2015-11-09 2015 2015-11 Republican House IL Rodney Davis D000619 rodneydavis.house.gov     legacy U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Ill.) today visited the Department of Veterans Affairs Illiana Health Care System in Danville. Davis met with leaders to discuss ways to improve care for veterans. Davis tours Danville VA with Acting Director Diana Carranza and signs Randy Cook's AFC Football, a resident of one of Danville's Community Living Centers. Our veterans deserve a responsive system that provides timely access to health care, said Davis. While many veterans receive excellent care from the doctors, nurses, and other dedicated Danville staff, there is always room for improvement. My staff and I will continue to work with VA leaders to limit veterans wait times, improve responsiveness, and increase access to care through the Veterans Choice Program.Specifically, veterans in Davis district have experienced long wait times when trying to schedule appointments through the Danville VA and difficulty receiving Veterans Choice Card authorization. The Danville VA is one of five medical centers in the state of Illinois and treats veterans in 34 counties in Illinois and Indiana, including those in the 13th Congressional District. Veterans go through the Danville VA to fill prescriptions, have medical exams and appointments, and get authorization for outside medical care via their VA Choice Card or in a medical emergency. This includes appointments at community based outpatient clinics in Carbondale, Decatur, and Springfield. Background: Last year, Congress passed H.R. 3230, the Veterans Access, Choice and Accountability Act, to provide additional funding for the VA to hire doctors and lease more facilities as well as allowing veterans who are experiencing wait times of 30 days or longer or who live 40 miles or more from a VA facility to access care at private facilities. Davis has worked to ensure the VA follows the intent of the law when implementing the Veterans Choice Program so more veterans will benefit. Davis has also introduced H.R. 3335, the Access to Veterans Benefits Improvement Act, his bipartisan legislation to improve the claims process through the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) so veterans can get the answers they need more quickly. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
