Todd Rokita joined Governor Mike Pence, Senator Joe Donnelly and other state and local elected officials, as well as emergency management officials in touring areas of Boone, Cass, Howard and Tippecanoe impacted by Sunday’s storms. “The toll of the damage from yesterday’s storms is just starting to become clear. As bad as the losses are in property and possessions for families and businesses, the good news is that no lives were lost. I stand ready to assist local authorities in getting federal disaster relief to those who need it should it be necessary,” Rokita said. “Maybe the most encouraging thing I saw today was Hoosiers helping Hoosiers. No one was waiting around for help. People were just pitching in to help family, friends, neighbors and complete strangers in need.” Rokita and his staff remain in continual contact with emergency management personnel from every county in the Fourth District to stay updated on local conditions. Earlier today, Rokita commented on the severity of the storm, and the need for Hoosiers to report any and all damage the State of Indiana Department of Homeland Security. Link. Kokomo Link to photos The damage in Kokomo was indiscriminate, hitting houses and businesses. In some neighborhoods, homes with little damage stood next to homes that were nearly destroyed. One home was ripped from its foundation with water pipes spraying uncontrollably in what was once a basement. Kokomo appears to have been the hardest hit community. Lafayette Link to photos In Lafayette, Rokita visited Southwestern Middle School, Subaru Indiana, and Voestalpine. Southwestern Middle School and Voestalpine were in shambles. Local officials pledge to get students back in classrooms as quickly as possible. Luckily no one was injured at Subaru’s and Voestalpine’s facilities, and repair work is under way to get Hoosiers back to work. Lebanon Link to photos During the stop in Lebanon, the tour went through the hardest hit neighborhoods. Homes and trees were ripped apart, but through it all, the community came together to be there for another. Hoosiers were helping other Hoosiers and there were dozens of children volunteering to clean debris from Abner Longly Southside Park This is why America and Indiana is so exceptional, we don’t want for help, we just start helping each other. Damage was serious throughout the industrial park. Logansport Link to photos Several businesses and plenty of homes were damaged in Cass County. The ARaymond factory lost part of its roof, a women’s clothing store had roof damage and water damage inside.
