These accounts, which would be similar to current 529 college savings accounts, would grow tax-free and are intended to supplement long-term disability expenses of severely disabled children. Families with disabled children have long needed a vehicle to ensure adequate care for their children in later years after parents and other direct decision makers have either passed on or are no longer able to make decisions related to the beneficiary’s care.
