Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Chairman of the Subcommittee on the Middle East and North Africa, made the following statement regarding President Macris decision to create a special prosecutor to investigate the death of Prosecutor Alberto Nisman. Statement by Ros-Lehtinen: I commend President Macris decision to create a special prosecutor to investigate the suspicious nature of Alberto Nismans death. Alberto was an ardent defender of the rule of law and a leader in the fight against corruption and terrorism and it was his dogged determination to uncover the truth behind the 1994 AMIA Jewish Community Center bombing in Buenos Aires that may have led ultimately to his untimely death. Nismans investigation into the AMIA bombing which killed 85 and injured hundreds more helped shine a light on the threat that Iran and its terror proxy group, Hezbollah, pose within our own hemisphere. We must honor Albertos legacy by exposing the truth surrounding his death and the AMIA bombing and by bringing those accountable to justice, but the only way we can do that is through a complete, transparent and unobstructed investigation.
