Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Chairman of the Subcommittee on the Middle East and North Africa, sent a letter to Secretary John Kerry with a bipartisan group of five of her colleagues, including Albio Sires (D-NJ), Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL), Carlos Curbelo (R-FL), Ted Yoho (R-FL), and Ron DeSantis (R-FL), outlining concerns with the deal concluded between Colombia’s government and the FARC, a U.S. designated foreign terrorist organization. Statement by Ros-Lehtinen: “Like many Colombians in my South Florida community, I have been extremely worried about this weak deal with the FARC. Colombia’s cocaine production has increased significantly and FARC members will be allowed to run for office, giving them even more opportunity to undermine both U.S. and Colombian security interests. My colleagues and I are very concerned that much of the joint progress made in Colombia over the past few decades will be rolled back as the FARC attempts to expand its narcoterrorist network.
