Statement by Ros-Lehtinen: “As we mark International Human Rights Day and commemorate the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, we must remember that millions around the world continue to be denied freedom and liberty by repressive regimes. It’s our moral obligation to condemn violators of human rights and defend principles that protect and ensure equal opportunity and basic fundamental freedoms for all. In addition, we must be a voice for those living under repressive regimes and not take for granted the freedoms that we cherish in the United States. “In my native land of Cuba, there are no human rights. This past Sunday marked another day that the peaceful Ladies in White – mothers, sisters and aunts of unjustly held prisoners – were put under house arrest and detained simply for marching to church to pray for their loved ones.
