FEMA officials initially said that they could not extend the assistance because the Commonwealth does not have an unemployment insurance law or state agency. But Congress authorized these benefits in the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Relief Act and your congressional office requested that FEMA reconsider. The unemployment assistance will now be provided using Hawaiis Employment Security Law per20 CFR Part 625. Individuals must file applications by October 19, 2015 in person at the Workforce Investment Agency office, Building 1215 on Capitol Hill, Saipan.
