The Federal Aviation Administration lifted a long-standing ban after finding that radio signals from PEDs do not pose a threat to aircraft navigation systems. Delta was the first airline to apply for and receive FAA approval to implement the new policy, but neglected to include flights into U.S. territories. Thanks to quick work from Resident Commissioner Pedro Pierluisi (D-Puerto Rico), Delta was alerted to the oversight and amended its policy. Restrictions are still in place outside of the U.S., so Delta passengers between Narita and Saipan will be able to use their PEDs when taking off or landing in the Northern Marianas, but not in Japan.
