That is up from the 13 Medicare beneficiaries who got the drug discount in 2011. The discounts are available for those who reach the so-called "donut hole," the gap in coverage between regular Medicare drug coverage and catastrophic coverage. This year the gap starts at $2,970. Once a Medicare beneficiary reaches that limit the new Affordable Care Act kicks in, paying 52.5 percent of the cost of covered brand-name prescription drugs bought at a pharmacy or ordered through the mail and 28 percent of the cost of generics. Coverage for both brand-name and generic drugs in the gap will continue to increase over time until 2020, when Obamacare will close the "donut hole" completely. | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
