For instance, the Republican’s proposal would strip the Northern Mariana Islands and the other U.S. territories of new Medicaid funding as part of the effort to defund Obamacare. That new law is providing $109 million in additional Medicaid funding for the NMI, money that is helping to keep our hospital open. Veterans, too, are at risk of losing access to services and face delays in medical claims processing, if the CR passes. To prevent that, I have joined with 36 of my colleagues to ask President Obama to designate certain Department of Veterans Affairs employees “essential” in the event of a government shutdown.
