The bill will fund the government until the end of September 2016. It passed the House today by a vote of 316-113. While this bill contained some positive policy additions, our bipartisan forestry disaster budget relief did not make the grade, while anti-privacy cyber provisions, NASCAR support, and Russian rocket engines did. There was, once again, large, off-budget, deficit-busting war spending in addition to the already bloated defense budget. Weapons procurement is over budget and out of control. We should be focusing on intelligence and targeting terrorist activities, not continuing a failed program trying to arm so-called Syrian 'moderates' with nothing to show for it. At the same time, there were only modest increases in education, labor and healthcare. The bill also significantly reduces the funding available for implementation of the Affordable Care Act. Housing and Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) programs also took a hit when they are most needed. This bill had the wrong priorities, did not reflect the will of the Appropriations Committee, did not go through regular order and was crafted in secret. This is not the way to reflect the will of the American people. Coupled with the deficit-busting tax extender special interest giveaway passed yesterday, it is a bad end to this year's Congressional session and a blow to our children's future. | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
