| http://sewell.house.gov/media-center/press-releases/rep-sewell-votes-highway-trust-fund | Rep. Sewell Votes for Highway Trust Fund | 2015-07-15 | 2015 | 2015-07 | Democrat | House | AL | Terri Sewell | S001185 | sewell.house.gov | legacy | Congresswoman Terri Sewell issued the following statement after the House passed the Highway and Transportation Funding Act of 2015: Its disappointing that Congress once again has failed to propose a long-term solution to invest in our nations roads, bridges, and rails. The Highway and Transportation Funding Act of 2015 is yet another Band Aid, but without this temporary fix the Department of Transportation would be unable to fund any new commitments to fix our aging infrastructure. The reality is our countrys investment in infrastructure is woefully inadequate. In Alabama, twenty percent of our major city streets are in poor condition. Driving on deteriorating roads cost motorists approximately $1.4 billion a year. Investing in our transportation system would also create thousands of good paying construction jobs that help more hard-working Americans earn a living. We cant continue to kick the can down the road we must do better by our constituents! Theres no reason why Congress cannot pass a long-term plan that would fix our aging infrastructure and boost our nations economic development. ### | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
