This legislation prevents dozens of tax increases from hitting Pennsylvanias families and small businesses. Since I entered Congress, I have been committed to lowering the financial burden on families and businesses across the 9th District, said Congressman Shuster. This legislation achieves that by permanently preventing several tax increases from going into effect and extending other tax cuts that will allow for more certainty and income that can be used to bolster the economy instead of paying for more wasteful Washington spending. The PATH Act, which will prevent a significant immediate tax increase on millions of Americans, makes permanent dozens of temporary tax cuts including the research and development tax credit that encourages incentives for innovation and also provisions that provide small businesses and farmers tax relief. Its also a win for small businesses as they will now be able to plan and adjust their budgets and new investments accordingly due to finally having the certainty that these tax extensions will now be permanent or extended for several years. Also included in the PATH Act are several provisions that are part of the Houses continued efforts to rein in the IRS. This includes language to allow for the firing of IRS employees that are making politically motivated actions like we saw under former IRS director Lois Lerner. Time wont heal the trust that the IRS broke with this nations citizens when they knowingly and purposely targeted people based on their political beliefs, continued Shuster.
