http://shuster.house.gov/index.cfm?sectionid=49&itemid=812 Defense Measure Negotiated by Shuster Passes House 2016-12-02 2016 2016-12 Republican House PA Bill Shuster S001154 shuster.house.gov     legacy WASHINGTON, DC –The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) that Congressman Bill Shuster (R-Hollidaysburg) had been helping negotiate with the Senate since July passed the House Friday morning. S.2943, the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2017 authorizes $619 billion for the Department of Defense. “We live in a dangerous world, and the strength of our armed forces is the key to protecting our homeland and defeating our enemies, especially radical Islamic terrorists,” said Congressman Shuster. “As we crafted this legislation, I worked to help reverse the devastating toll the Obama Administration has taken on our armed forces - ensuring we do not compromise our warfighters when comes to providing the necessary funding they need to execute their mission.” This legislation, which ensures that our military has the tools they need to protect and defend the United States, provides a 2.1% pay raise for our troops, increases ground and aviation training, strengthens healthcare for our men and women serving, and makes investments to continue modernizing and improving our nation’s weapons systems. A continued top priority for Congressman Shuster is also rejecting the Obama Administration, and House and Senate Democrats call for a Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) round. Congressman Shuster’s language to prohibit a BRAC from taking place was successfully included in the final version of the NDAA that passed on Friday. “This legislation also provides critical resources here in Pennsylvania to support the mission of Letterkenny Army Depot, and keep the installation off the chopping block and safe to continue its key mission of supporting Army operations,” continued Shuster. “Further, the NDAA contains the legislative measures needed to allow the military to continue its efforts with our allies to find and kill enemies like ISIS and protect against new and emerging threats across the globe.” ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
